ody Lloyd is a Rapper/Songwriter/Record Label Director/Poet/Beats Guy/Producer and founding member of hip hop duo Dark Tower and more recently, the solo recording project 'Trillion' and the live five piece 'The Trillion Band'. He is also the guy who brought you (among other things) the critically acclaimed Shadows on a Flat Land in 1998.
Jody has worked on recording projects with many well known musicians including Dave Dobbyn, DLT, The Brunettes, Jeremy Taylor and SJD. Dark Tower's album Canterbury Drafts was nominated alongside Che Fu for best hip hop album at the 2001 NZ Tui NZ Music Awards. Over the last fifteen years Jody has performed hundreds of times, from small bars and cafes to concert and festival crowds of thousands, most recently exposing his unique brand of NZ hip hop to crowds in Australia.
As founder of She'll Be Right Records - home of Dark Tower, Trillion, Lindon Puffin, Duff, Jeremy Taylor, John White, Bazuki Joe, Billy Wilson, St Lucy and new recruits Le Mot Cafe and Sam Hopley, Jody Lloyd's music has been included in numerous compilation albums and with the help of his label mates has released over twenty albums, making She'll Be Right Records one of the largest active Christchurch based independents. As no stranger to journalism, Jody is currently a contract producer for Radio NZ producing music based documentaries in Christchurch, a position he has held since October 2003. His writing has been published in RipItUp and his lyrics and poetry published in the Catalyst poetry journals.
Jody's natural aim whilst creating and choosing music to release, is to think ahead, challenge norms and stretch boundaries, which in turn creates interest and stimulates debate. In an era, when people seem to be lapping up American sounding local music Jody stands firm on these morals and won't be swayed. Jody Lloyd has a strong conviction (evident in his music) to always 'keep it honest and keep it kiwi'.
After many years in Auckland and a stint in UK, Jody has returned to his hometown of Christchurch to continue with his passion of creating, performing and releasing excellent local music.
