Christchurch based Icelandic singer/songwriter HERA performs live for the last time in Christchurch this summer, at Al’s Bar in Dundas St on Friday 2nd March, before heading off to perform at the hugely prestigious South By Southwest Convention in Austin, Texas USA between 9th – 14th March. The SXSW event provides Hera with a golden opportunity to showcase her beautifully penned songs, delivered with sleek silky vocals, in front of some of the world’s leading music industry representatives. She will be part of a strong New Zealand contingent attending this year’s SXSW festival including Bic Runga, Blindspott, Elemeno P, Die! Die! Die! and Gasoline Cowboy, amongst others.

HERA has been living and performing in NZ for over 10 years whilst also carving out a successful career in her native country, Iceland. Not an easy task given the global separation of the two lands, but one that was richly rewarded in 2003 when she was named Best Female Artist at that year’s Icelandic Music Awards above some rather elite competition, including Icelandic superstar Bjork! That same year HERA’s first Icelandic album delivered a Gold Record Award and was backed up by 37 live concert performances in 2 months.

Live shows continued through 2004 & 2005 with HERA supporting both Australian music legend NICK CAVE and World superstar JOE COCKER in Reykjavik’s biggest concert arena. Her 2nd album “Don’t Play This” released in summer 2005 was supported by another national tour and by the end of the year the Icelandic music website - www.tonlist.is - had 8 HERA songs on their Top 10 Most Played List simultaneously – an unmatched achievement by any artist world over!

All these accolades and amazingly still only 23! Now having conquered her native Iceland, HERA has once again returned to her “other home” of Christchurch to spread her musical wings southwards and enchant her ever-growing New Zealand fan-base. With recording plans in the pipeline for a new album later this year, the 2007 diary is filling up fast so before she flies away once again, make sure you catch this unique and exquisite songbird in a very intimate live concert performance.

Iceland has given the musical world some diverse and wonderful musical successes in Bjork, Mezzaforte and Sigur Ros to name a few.
