Rippon Festival Celebrates 10th Year
10th August 2007 - Press Release

Celebrating 10 years since the original Rippon Open Air Festival was held at Rippon Vineyard back in 1998, the line-up for Lake Wanaka’s seventh event has been announced. Featuring Shapeshifter, Kora, Little Bushman, Eru Dangerspiel, Ladi 6, Anika Moa, Connan and the Mockasins, and The Electric Confectionaires, Rippon 08 is scheduled for Saturday 2nd February next year at Rippon Vineyard.

Director Lynne Christie says the organisers are “over the moon” with the superb selection of musicians booked for the festival. As 2008 marks the tenth year since the first festival, the 14 members of Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated who organise the biennial festivals have been putting extra effort into ensuring an unforgettable summer event.

While acknowledging that plenty has changed since the late nineties, Ms Christie affirms that the organisers have remained true to the aim of promoting quality Kiwi music in an unbeatable setting. “It’s been a humbling experience for the music selectors to listen to such amazing material from the nation’s musicians, and from Kiwis living all over the world.”

The after party which runs from 10pm till after dawn, will feature The Turnaround, Recloose, Tyra and the Tornadoes, Murray Cammick, Riki Gooch, Jason Kyle and Downtown Brown. The R18 after party has a capacity of 1800 and is to be held at separate outdoor venue.

Since their first profit was made in 2000, the not-for-profit group has donated over $17,000 to groups within the local region. Past profits have benefited such organisations as Wanaka Wastebusters, Infinity Skate Park, Mt Aspiring College, Wanaka Primary School, Tarras School, Hawea School, Pembroke Park, and Ruby Island.

Capacity for the 2008 event will remain at 5000 people. Last year, Rippon 06 sold out three months in advance and organisers are expecting tickets to move even faster for Rippon 08. Tickets go on sale on October 1st, 2007.
