(90's rockers Pumpkinhead have reformed
for the ChCh Music Stage at Southern Amp 2)

With just four weeks to go until the South Island's biggest multi-stage live music festival in Christchurch on Saturday 10th November at the newly named AMI Stadium, Southern Amp 2 is delighted to announce four more excellent bands appearing at the event to complete the line-ups on all stages. We can now officially say that Southern Amp 2 will give South Islanders Twelve Hours of non-stop Live Music featuring over forty bands and DJs on three separate stages in the biggest outdoor festival the mainland has seen for years.

Joining The Rock Main Stage already consisting of Shihad, The Black Seeds, Evermore, Thirsty Merc, Opshop, The Veils, Atlas, dDub, Dukes and The Valves are:

The Checks - NZ breakthrough artist of the year at the NZ Music Awards in May 2005. REM heard one song and asked the band to support them here. Noel Gallagher then chose them to support Oasis on their Australian tour the same year. Not long after, the Editor of the UK's famous NME magazine saw them perform and booked them on the spot for the NME New Music tour of the UK. Having bagged a record deal during their short stint in England, the band relocated to London in 2006 and got straight down to recording their debut album, released this week on SonyBMG. The Checks are a spit 'n' sawdust rock 'n' roll band bursting at the seams with pumping rock songs to send you bare-chested and wild! 2007 has seen the band tour the UK 5 times and catching their live performance at Southern Amp is going to be a treat you won't want to miss!

The Ministry Of Sound Annual Stage remains unchanged featuring Scribe, Concord Dawn With Mc Tiki, Ladi 6, Kid Kenobi & Mc Shureshock (Aus), John Course (Aus), Goodwill (Aus), Greg Churchill, Dick Johnson, Ob1, Timmy Schumacher & Mc Kyla, Yuhei Kubo and Rare Shot Blue.

Three more acts have also been confirmed for the Christchurch Music Stage…

Pumpkinhead – Reforming especially for Southern Amp 2 this iconic Christchurch rock band from the 90's will be playing their first full show since 1996, almost exactly 11 years ago to the day! Pumpkinhead's 1995 album "Sloth" may still be the loudest piece of music to come out of NZ! Pumpkinhead reinvented the two minute-something song with their grunge-strained, high crunch factor pop. They toured nationally, supported and played with Shihad, Supergroove, opened for Faith No More on both their NZ tours, supported Fugazi, Primus and played the BIG DAY OUT in 1995 and 1996! For a slice of pure NZ rock history, DO NOT miss this monster of Christchurch music-past at Southern Amp 2.

Neil Robinson – three completely unsupervised teenagers, the band was formed in honour of a national treasure of the same name in 2006. Neil Robinson combine melt-in-the-mouth pop tunes with wild, almost inappropriate, energy and a live show that's bound to want to make your girlfriend dump you!

Bang! Bang! Eche! – The Winners of the 2007 RDU98.5FM Round-Up band competition at the famous Dux de Lux in Christchurch earned themselves the unparalleled distinction of opening the first ever Christchurch Music Stage at Southern Amp 2! Previous SmokefreeRockquest finalists Bang! Bang! Eche! are 2 girls, 4 guys, lots of colour, playing a mix of house, post punk new wave & J-pop. Think of Flying Lizards, B52's and you're not far off…

So the full & final Christchurch Music Industry Stage line-up is – Pumpkinhead, Gasoline Cowboy, Tainted, 4manbob, Heavy Jones, Charlie Ash, Band Theft Auto, Neil Robinson, Ed Muzik, Flying Solo, The Tiger Tones, The Undercurrents, The Enright House, Ragamuffin Children, Mustard, John White, Andy Gibson, The Eastern, Trillion Band and Bang! Bang! Eche!

Southern Amp 2 has got a Ferris Wheel, some head-blowing rides, lots of bars, food stalls, plus Vodafone's mobile phone charge and fun zone, the Speights Ale House and loads of stuff to see and get involved with, but most importantly a whole day of non-stop live music. Tickets on sale now at TICKETEK and Real Groovy, advance sales are cheaper so don't wait around.
