(Not So Experimental @ Camp A Low Hum 2007)

The most spectacular A LOW HUM Newsletter ever! (including Camp ALH08 News!)

1.
Camp A LOW HUM 2008!
With the reviews of Camp A Low Hum 2007 being so glowing, I was initially concerned. Concerned that there was simply no way I could follow it. No way I could top it and no possible way to meet peoples expectations. Then I embraced it, thought Screw it! I'm going to organize an event so ridiculously incredible that people will even forget their own name. An event so stupidly awesome that people will chain themselves to the pool, begging me to never let camp finish!

With Camp 2008 in a new, bigger, better location, I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about the new site. I've kept everything that made Camp '07 special, but if you think you know what to expect, you are seriously mistaken.

I never intended for Camp to be considered a weekend festival, so have gone all out to change that perception. Camp A LOW HUM '08 is a now 4 days long! I wanted to make it worthy of people taking a week off of work for it. I want to make it the best week of the year. 3 days was simply not enough.

Yet again, bands will not be announced until the first day of Camp.

I won't tell you much more 'cause I don't want to ruin the surprises - and there are lots of them.

Currently www.pacificblue.co.nz are offering cheap as flights of only $39 one way from either Auckland or Christchurch to Wellington on this weekend. If you intend to catch a flight, I will have instructions on www.alowhum.com on how to get from the Wellington airport to Camp. Apparently AirNZ are launching some new competitive prices soon as well, so if you miss the Pacific Blue flights, don't despair. If you want to book flights this week so you don't miss out, but want to make sure you don't miss on getting a camp ticket, email:  alowhum@gmail.com with "pre-register" in the subject heading. Tickets for 2008 are a wee bit more expensive, but still works out to the same amount per day.  Check out the FAQ for more info.

2. Disasteradio "Visions" and the A LOW HUM Label.

I am so very stoked to announce that A Low Hum has evolved into a proper record label, and even more stoked that the first proper album released on it is from my very favourite act in New Zealand - Disasteradio!

It's no secret that I have an obsession with Mr Luke Rowell and his Computer, but for the past couple of years he has been working on the masterpiece that is "Visions". This is the party album of the century! If this album doesn't put a smile on your face, you are the devil. An album full of amazing songs like Hotline, Awesome Feelings, Dancing Fantasy and the new single "Digital Pop".

Luke Rowell and Computer did everything on the album, from writing, to recording, mixing, mastering, and even the artwork! (Which would have also made a great cover for Microsoft "Virtual" Encarta - Windows 95 edition)

Visions will be in shops from October 1, helped by the sweet folk at Border Distribution and it's launch is being celebrated with sweet parties in Auckland, Wellington , Christchurch and Dunedin. Don't Miss!

3. A LOW HUM + CRAFTWERK + THE ENRIGHT HOUSE

A Low Hum & Craftwerk up a tree, K.I.S.S.I.N.G.

Longtime fans and supporters of each others projects, I have teamed up with Heather Barnes, creator of the hugely popular Craftwerk - Alternative Craft and Music fair, to take it on tour! Add to this Christchurch's Enright House have finally finished their breathtaking debut album, release number two for the A Low Hum Label and will be celebrating the release of it on this tour...and you have some seriously sweet goodtimes.

Craftwerk is not your regular craft fair for old ladies, anybody who makes anything be it cupcakes to zines to clothes to posters to badges to undies can have a stall at Craftwerk, an event which also presents some amazing and unique bands. If you are interested in nabbing a stall at Crafwerk in any of the towns we visit, head to the website www.craftwerk.co.nz. You are also more than welcome to join in on the tour and present your crafts in as many towns as you want!

The Enright House are a band you'll struggle to pigeon-hole. At times reminiscent of God Speed You! Black Emperor, other times more at home with the indie pop stylings of Death Cab for Cutie, moments of Sigur Ros, a sprinkling of the Postal Service, throw into that mix a sound that is only theirs and you have a seriously epic record. The Enright House is out in Stores in October through A Low Hum/Border, or get a copy on this tour.

Joining The Enright House on tour are Christchurch's Get Set Play, the solo project of Mark Holland (Tiger Tones, Pig Out), Wellingtons indescribable Thought Creature and sweethearts Little Pictures
