The Music Sector Workshop Series ((Chart)) in association with Canterbury Development Corporation presents: 'The Music Sector Workshop Series' - a series of free workshops dedicated specifically to the Music Industry sector in Christchurch.
The aim of sector development is to work together to boost business growth, industry and regional development. By offering training specific to industry we can customise each workshop and call on industry experts to provide relevant examples and expertise.
This Enterprise Training Programme (ETP) is fully funded by New Zealand Trade & Enterprise and is managed locally by Canterbury Development Corporation. The programme is aimed at upskilling the owners and operators of small and medium-sized enterprises to help them develop and grow their businesses. The workshops offer training for managing a business, complemented by follow-up coaching designed to enable you to implement what you have learnt.
Format The workshops are restricted to a small workable group, are very interactive and lead by industry experts. Dates are as follows:
Weds 9 May Marketing: New Media Music e-Marketing
 Jeff Fulton of the Music Managers Forum explains ways of successfully marketing your band to achieve maximum profile and business opportunities, including tips MySpace and other key online promotion sites.
Weds 16 May Financial: Structuring Your Music Business For Financial Success
 Musician and music industry accountant Gavin Shepherd will work through ways of setting up your music business, tips on tax and accounting processes.
Weds 23 May Legal: Contract Negotiations and Legal Frameworks
 Music industry lawyer Chris Cooper will look at copyright, contracts (recording, publishing, performance, labels, licensing, etc) and identify common contract issues.
