The Civic was built in 1899 as an exhibition hall before becoming the council offices in 1920. Much care has been taken in restoring this historical building to its former glory, with Greek figurines adorning the walls and restored mahogany woodwork. The Main Room has in the past year hosted The Living End, Evermore, The Feelers, Blindspott, Lee Scratch Perry, Salmonella Dub, Pluto, Deicide, Cornerstone Roots, International Dj events and many more. We offer 2 separate band rooms, full bathroom facilities and even a laundry. Free signage is available on the 3m x 4m banner situated on the Manchester street frontage.
Zinc Bar
The Civic is a versatile space for any event up to 1000 people. With the Zinc bar to the front left of the building open every weekend. With a Lounge bar atmosphere in the past year Zinc has also had Diesel, Anika Moa, Taos grace us with there talents. Zinc can hold up to 180 people. The stylish VIP room can comfortably hold up to 150 people. This space is situated to the front right of the building. Can be used as a separate zone, chill out space or booked for a stand alone event.
The side stage is generally utilized for a crowd of 200 to 300. With a back smoking area and entrance through the flood lit alley way on the northern side of the building. The side stage has hosted Stereogram, A Low Humm and Picture in the last year.
