Christchurch Musicians Club www.musicianschch.co.nz

The Christchurch Musicians Club was formed as a social club for musicians to mix and mingle after a job when 10pm closing started in the late 60’s. A venue was purchased in Peterborough Street and muso’s would meet and Jam and tell stories to the small hours. The opportunity for young musicians to Jam with older members created a great learning environment. It was not unusual to see prominent visiting overseas artists arrive unannounced at a club evening. Magic!! The club eventually moved to new premises in Hazeldean Road and continued in a similar manner. Hazeldean Road was sold and the club now has a vibrant committee who run a variety of social activities at various locations throughout the city and Canterbury area visiting, Clubs, bus trips to country pubs and wineries, and runs the odd purpose built function around an anchor band and invited guests. The ideals of a social “meet and greet” plus the chance for younger musicians to play and learn with older musicians still remains.
