Lisa Tui Presents ‘Amongst Friends’ 19th June 2007
 (Mike Russell)
Lisa Tui weaves together the worlds of talented original music makers, performers and singers - @ the Loons, Friday 6th July 2007. Performing alongside her guests, the evening will be a warm night out, engaging, varied and fun. With songwriters, musicians telling tales of touring days, music trivia, physical theatre and blues, funk and Motown to finish the night. Be part of a new era in showcasing our local talent.
The beginning of a series, Lisa Tui performs and interviews her guest performers from singer songwriters to choirs, with the night culminating in a funky dance groove amongst the acrobatic Twisty twins and quiz maker Vicki McDowell.
Lisa’s debut event on the 6 July will feature Andy Thompson… one of Christchurch’s driving forces upon the NZ music landscape, Mike Russell… touring trumpeter with Midnight Oil & Netherworld dancing toys, ‘A bit on the side’…a slightly confused singing ensemble and resident soul & funk band Equus.
With over 300 talented singers and performers in Christchurch, each night will hold up the stage to ‘spotlight’ solo singing artists, the ones without a band but real good backing tracks. First to take the spotlight on the 6th is torch singer and woman of substance Ora Levebre.
Lisa Tui, billed one of Christchurch’s newest singer songwriting Diva’s
in 2006, has sung and performed in Christchurch for 10 years. For the
past 5 she has lead and wailed amongst gospel singing enthusiasts,
Bright On Vibes @ the Christchurch Cathedral and hosted many concert
evenings, drawing out the singer in everyone. On stage with
Christchurch Showbiz, Lisa has taken roles from the Lion King, 42nd
Street, Hair and launched into her own wrenching version of ‘And I am
telling you.’ from Showgirls. Currently venturing into the realms of
originality (if it really does exist) Lisa is a current member of Funk
& Soul band, Equus, recording with them their 6th CD and first EP,
Rise and Shine.
An engaging and generous type facilitator, Lisa is likely to welcome
you to a show of relishing Christchurch Music makers, celebrating
expression, initiative and the pursuit of excelling in the art of
singing.
‘Music Mahem’ is a trivia event within the night’s format for testing
the brain cells and reflexes, where prizes are to be won and Mahem
mumblings made.
