Certificate in Audio Engineering and Music Production – Level 5

Description: The Certificate in Audio engineering and Music Production introduces students to the world of audio from a studio and computer recording perspective. The Certificate year also provides an excellent foundation for the following Diploma year (Year 2) and is generally considered the prerequisite.  

Qualification: A Diploma in Audio Engineering and Music Production

Entry Criteria: Anyone may apply for this programme, but there are selection criteria in place, so it is advantageous to have NCEA Level 1 in Literacy, Maths (numeracy standards), Physics and music and or a minimum of 8 credits in NCEA music Level 2 or 3.

Studio Profile: Performance Studios, Control rooms, MIDI Suites and High Tech rooms.

Prospects: Graduates from the Audio Engineering programmes go on to work in various aspects of the music/ recording industry. Typical positions filled by our Graduates include: radio production engineer, recording engineer, livesound engineer, and many Graduates fill positions in the field of multimedia. Having completed the first year, it is highly recommended that students go on to the second year, the Diploma of Audio Engineering and Music Production.

Diploma in Audio Engineering and Music Production
Description: Diploma in Audio Engineering and Music Production – Level 6
The second year of the Diploma in Audio Engineering is designed as a direct follow on from the Certificate year, and expands considerably on skills established during this course. The Diploma delivers new modules to address a range of job opportunities, these include: ‘Sound for Radio’ ‘Sound for Television’ and three multimedia modules.

Qualification: A Diploma in Audio Engineering and Music Production

Certificate in Live Sound and Event Production
Description: Certificate in Audio Engineering and Music Production – Level 4/5
The Certificate in Live Sound and Event Production prepares students for work in the livesound, lighting and event professions and also introduces students to the world of audio from a studio and computing recording prospective.

Entry Criteria: Preference will be given to those with a high level of motivation and a desire to succeed in this exciting and demanding field. It is advantageous to have good passes in maths, Physics, and Music at NCEA Level 2 or equivalent. Mature people without academic qualifications who can show a commitment to succeed are encouraged to apply.

Qualification: A Certificate in Live Sound and Event Production.

Facilities: Concert PA with front of house and on stage monitor mix, Full range of instruments and amps, Full lighting rig and DJ mixing gear.
