The Christchurch Arts Festival 2007 kicks off in 7 days and for the first time, Tihei Productions has a Maori series contained within it. The Mauriora Series is a celebration of Maori artistry, music and Te Reo Maori timed to coincide with Maori Language Week 2007. This season presents acclaimed Maori performers from around Aotearoa including Arian a Tikao, Te Huaki Puanaki, Ruia Aperahama and The Mamaku Project in the relaxed atmosphere of the TelstraClear Club.

Our venue is in the heart of Cathedral Square this year and we are thrilled to be able to present some outstanding shows. Each artist is here for only 1 performance so our advice to you is to GET IN EARLY!! Limited doorsales will be available for the evening performances.

Ruia, Ranea and Manny Aperahama are pictured above at a recent Matariki concert in Wellington. Don't miss out on a rare opportunity to see the brothers on stage together with their touring band. ONE NIGHT ONLY Friday 27 July @ 7pm

Lyttelton-based singer/songwriter Ariana Tikao (Ngāi Tahu)  also features in the Mauriora Series collaborating with award-winning producer Leyton. ‘Tuia’ means ‘stitched’ and is a metaphor for the connections between people, within and across generations. Inspired by her ancestors, Tikao’s waiata are soulful and life-affirming. Leyton’s sparse electronic soundscapes – including real birdsong from a southern dawn chorus and Richard Nunns’ taoka puoro – are the perfect relish for Tikao’s voice.
28th July 12pm at the TelstraClear Club, $10 (see www.artsfestival.co.nz/events/tuia-lullabies-and-laments)

A big mihi to Brannigan Kaa and to those of you who have already purchased tickets for Bran's show. Regrettably, due to unforeseen circumstances this performance has been cancelled. Aroha mai koutou. However we look forward to seeing Brannigan in Christchurch at the end of August, auditioning for the next series of Maorioke - better start warming up those vocal chords now...!!
