Looking For Local Music

11th October 2007
In late November The Physics Room will host Sparkling Duets, a night of couples playing music together, developed by Wellington-based artist Louise Menzies.
Sparkling Duets, Christchurch will happen at the Wunderbar on Saturday 24 November, 8pm, and is looking for couples from Christchurch to be involved. A short set only is required (2 or 3 songs) with original music preferred but covers ok. The first Sparkling Duets happened in Wellington in 2005 with seven couples performing a series of short musical sets. Many of the performers already played in bands or had a musical background, with Sparkling Duets offering the energies of their relationship a new means for expression. As well as taking the particular qualities and inter-personal dynamics of a romantic couple as a space for performance, Sparkling Duets also responds directly to the local music community, offering new musical combinations from within a group of people who often already know each other or even play together already in other bands. For others it is a chance to perform, possibly for the first time, with the confidence and support of someone close to them. Sparkling Duets, Christchurch will be the third instalment of this ongoing performance project, following the 2006 New Plymouth edition as part of the Govett-Brewster Art Gallerys performance series Mostly Harmless. If you are interested in being part of the project or would just like some more information, please contact either:  Louise Menzies: louisemenzies@gmail.com Tel: 021 759 800. Or Vanessa Coxhead vanessa@physicsroom.org.nz  Tel: 03 379 5583 www.physicsroom.org.nz
