The Main Divide at Pegasus Bay - Sat, 1 March 2008.
About 1600 fans braved the wet weather to enjoy 12 hours of live music at Pegasus Bay winery on Saturday.
By mid-afternoon, the grassy, natural amphitheatre was nearly full, with all in grand spirits and enjoying the mellow sounds of Christchurch singer/songwriter Flip Grater. She played a nice set of songs from her recent release, and was accompanied by a choir for her final track, a pleasant opening and nice segue into Wellington's The Phoenix Foundation.
Alway impressive, the Foundation cranked up the crowd, most of whom had left their seats to brave the rain and take to what would turn into the muddiest dance floor of any gig I have attended. Churning through all the hits from the three-album back catalogue, members of the indie pop/rock band, on hearing the news that Dallas Tamaira (Fat Freddy's Drop) would be unable to make his slot, threw away the set list and treated the fans to an extra-long set.
Following up, Whakatane roots/rocker Kora delighted the crowd by playing a fantastic upbeat set of what are becoming classic songs. The band's ability to cross from rock to drum and bass and beyond was a highlight for old and new fans alike.
With night falling Pitch Black took to the stage and busted out a trademark set of perfect tracks, before electronica contemporaries Module and COSM wrapped up the gig.
