After a 5yr hiatus, Pacific Heights returns with an eagerly awaited 2nd album, the quite incredible 'In A Quiet Storm'. Pacific Heights is the solo project of Devin Abrams, a founding member of NZ's #1 live act and arguably most popular drum and bass outfit, Shapeshifter.
Abrams released the Pacific Heights EP way back in the early noughties, following it with his debut album Frozen Fears – both releases sold in their thousands but are no longer available. While his earlier releases referenced D&B, this album shows another side of the multi-talented multi-instrumentalist.
In A Quiet Storm is an exquisite album which fuses nu soul and hip hop in a way no-one else in NZ has. With echoes of genre-defining artists such as Platinum Pied Pipers, Sa-Ra, Steve Spacek and Pete Rock, In A Quiet Storm blends this forward-thinking approach to sound with his distinctly Pacific flavoured beats and vibes.
The album features guest appearances from some of NZ's favourite vocalists, such as Joe Dukie (Fat Freddy’s Drop), PDigsss (Shapeshifter), Ladi6 and Lisa Tomlins (Rhombus), alongside Mara TK (Electric Wire Hustle), Jetlag Johnson (Fat Freddy’s Drop), Mark Vanilau (Departure Lounge) and fresh new faces Sacha Vee, JDubs and Aeries.
Abrams is planning a nationwide tour during September – but this is no one man band business, no! Bringing In A Quiet Storm to the live stage is a superstar line up of NZ’s top soul artists, including Joe Dukie, PDigsss and Lisa Tomlins.
Pacific Heights is also joined at various venues around the country by
the likes of Downtown Brown, Partido, Nick D, Isaac Aesili, Electric
Wire Hustle and DJ Mu (Fat Freddys Drop).
