Christchurch alt-pop rockers The Insurgents are Chart's Featured artist for February 2008. As the darlings of the all-ages scene courtesy of their involvement with Out Of Kilter Music - an all ages focused record label and music community blog, they are rapidly gaining attention as a rocking live band with killer songs. Their influences range from the Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, Kings of Leon, The Cribs and The Beatles.

The Insurgents formed in 2004 at Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti High School in the heart of Christchurch city. Initially a two-piece comprised of Chris Young on guitar/vocals and David Coffey on drums, the band expanded to three with the addition of Mike Ellis on bass about a year after the bands inception.

From there the band played as many shows as they could, supporting acts like The Shaky Hands, This Night Creeps, Charlie Ash, Autozamm and the Have, as well as appearances at the Cusp New Years festival in Nelson.

After a hiatus during the last half of 2006, courtesy of guitarist/vocalist Chris Young's other pop-tastic band Neil Robinson winning the 2006 Smokefree Rockquest, The Insurgents returned with the addition of new instruments (piano and keyboards), a new member Will Edmonds (alternating between guitar and bass) and a completely new set.

They have supported Motocade and The Tutts, as well as playing a lot of house parties with their friends Bang! Bang! Eche! and Charlie Bones. In 2008 they are planning a national tour with Bang! Bang! Eche! with a show in Dunedin with Wellington’s Fighting the Shakes.

The fun and relaxed nature of the group is reflected in the titles of some of their catchy tunes like "Rather be Dead", "Feeling Put Out" and Ezi Lovers 69".
