The Jasper Sweeney won the UCSA's Battle Of The Bands competition in NZ Music Month '09 and are CHART's July Featured Artist. Beating off Radio Ron from a close second this 4 piece indie pop not only earned the title of best student band in ChCh but have scored a slot at the huge FIRE UP - 3 night live music minifest at the UCSA Ballroom in July.

TJS reigning from the small town Christchurch was born out of boredom and frustration. Early 2009 saw front man Lukas Thielmann and drummer Michael Jefferson from the blues trio Denmark Street bid a sad farewell to their bass player who had decided to move to Wellington to get urbanly visioned.

Meanwhile, Sunburn front man Shannon Fowler was also facing gloomy partings as half his band up and left to choke it up in the big smoke that is Auckland. It was in this wake of miserable depression that both front men eyed each other up. After several bone shattering fights and drunken brawls they vowed to never punch again and join forces together to create a new style of music that would save the world.

Luckily enough, the ever positive Michael Jefferson was up for the challenge of drumming to this new beat. All they needed now was a bass player to join their force and this position was filled by Rebekah Helm. Together with Lukas’ raucous licks, Shannon’s catchy poppy-ness, Michael’s rhythmic juiciness and Rebekah’s basic bassiness, they created a super fun’tastic indie pop outfit that leaves fans blowing bubblegum bubbles for hours after.
