Delaney Davidson is a world travelling hobo, originating from Christchurch and previously basing himself out of Switzerland when he toured with cult legends Dead Brothers and was instrumental in the sublime "Wunderkammer" album (Voodoo Rhythm Records) playing singing saw, lap steel, drums and vocals. Delaney's impending release of his third solo album and homecoming shows are sure to be a highlight of early 2010.
He is at home in most cities in Europe as well as enjoying the times he has spent in the USA.
Davidson has also played as guest for many bands including The Reverend Beatman and Zeno Tornado as well as other voodoo rhythm bands, both live and in the studio.
He has supported mystic dark folkers Wovenhand, alternative song masters Tex Perkins and Tim Robbins in their T&T duo, and was invited and toured the USA in 2008 with Queen of the Underground Holly Golightly and the Broke Offs, where he attracted rave reviews which resulted in his invitation to headline the SteelBridge Song Fest in Wisconsin 2009. Following on from this success he returned to Sturgeon bay to take part in the Dark Songs songwriting festival, and now holds an open invitation to return.
Performing in the Basel Stadt Theatre's "Drei Groschen Oper" he is also at home in the theatre, and his eerie music is well suited to film soundtrack.
Davidson can also be found on the big screen playing the lead role as jail
bird Parrish in Marc Littlers Noir-Cotic odyssey The Road to Nod (Slowboat Films) which premiered in July 2007. Davidson was also a key player in Slowboat Films’ feature length documentary on the Dead Brothers titled Death Is Not The End.
He also starred in Slowboat Films VOODOO RHYTHM, The gospel of Primitive Rock and Roll, Having completed three successful solo European tours he is currently wrapping up his fourth. Delaney has just completed his third tour of the USA, establishing himself deeper into the roots of the landscape that his musical influences stem from, and finding a firm foothold in the terrain of western, blues and roots folk music.
The official release date for his Self Decapitition album is March 1st, 2010 and he will kick this off with his 5th tour of Europe on the 1st of April.
Press has consistently praised Davidson by saying: “To paint a picture of what it sounded like, try imagining Bob Dylan covering the songs off of Tom Waits’ Bone Machine with Son House accompanying on bottleneck guitar.
Davidson has got Dylan’s current raspy and disaffected delivery, while his subject matter is filled with “Waitsian” images of seediness and mortality. He utilized loop pedals to craft his rhythm guitar licks, while doing some experimental and improvisational “soloing” on top of them. At one point he even let the looped guitar keep repeating itself for several minutes while he led a waltz competition on the floor of the club (which was won jointly by a pair of hard-competing unisex couples).
Overall I thought very highly of Davidson’s set, and look forward to spinning my newly purchased copy of his record.” – John Behm, Culture Bully
