Project Lyttelton chooses Lyttelton made when it comes to its festival line-up.
As part of it’s locally focused ethos Project Lyttelton ensures that 99% of its band line-ups for all festivals are Lyttelton based acts, fitting nicely with the sustainable community ideals which bind the organisation together. As the event team at Project Lyttelton embarks on their latest and greatest event development, the Lyttelton Summer Festival (LSF) 19-28th Feb, they happily reminisce about the process and the reasons behind why they do what they do.
“Lyttelton has long been known as a place that draws creative types; essentially we provide a platform for people from all communities to share & celebrate a unique and diverse place,” remarks Lucy Allen-King, one of the Event Organisers based with Project Lyttelton. Allen-King goes on to say, “We’re utterly blessed to be based in such a creative elbow of the world. We secure amazing professional acts that are uniquely Lyttelton and ultimately world class.” But the harbour doesn’t just entice ‘musos’, it’s also become well entrenched in the gourmand minds as a tasty weekend destination and the LSF promotes this in it’s programme along with walks, children’s activities, bio-diversity, arts and the list goes on.
The Lyttelton Summer Street Party (28th Feb, 12-6pm), the penultimate event of the LSF, with the likes of Carmel Courtney (Carmelita Toots), Aaron Tokona (Hori Buzz), Dr Sanchez, The Eastern, The Unfaithful Ways and Le Mot Café gracing the Main Stage. “A line-up that says: Hello world, we are Lyttelton hear us roar,” quips Allen-King.
The programme is due for release next week, either save a tree and download from Project Lyttelton’s site www.lyttelton.net.nz/summer or pick one up at your local café.
