Switch, Sanchez & Nacoa - three of Christchurch's busiest working musicians combining from very different parts of the musical spectrum to create a soulful Nu Jazz sound featuring some of New Zealand's top vocalists.
Performing together and writing for less than a year, but drawing on years of experience as Producers, DJ's, musicians, promoters and mangers, Switch, Sanchez & Nacoa set themselves apart from the usual DJ set by bringing live, improvised Latin Guitar and Saxophone to their regular performances.
All three have diverse and extensive backgrounds in the New Zealand music scene with Switch part of "Truth", undoubtedly one of New Zealand’s greatest Dubstep exports, Nacoa by far the busiest DJ in Christchurch, with years of dance club management behind him also, and Sanchez, NZ's most booked Latin Guitarist and music photographer under the guise of Duke Mule.
Bought together slowly as a variation to regular DJ sets at inner city venues in Christchurch last year, quickly a sound developed as the latin guitar and sax began to fit around the beats that Nacoa would serve up, this led to several listening sessions digging out old beats that the three had been sitting on individually over in Switch's studio in Lyttelton. Several weeks later backbones of tracks formed and vocals were eventually added by Sacha Vee and Kurnel MC.
The first track is called " Cant Help It " featuring Sacha Vee and will have a release of early Feb 2010. All tracks are by Switch, Sanchez & Nacoa and production is by Switch at his Lyttelton studio. Sacha's vocals were recorded in Wellington. The first exposure of the tracks was during a cracking set, ankle deep in mud at the recent Phat 10 on the West Coast. You can catch the guys playing regular sets around Christchurch at Cartel and Le Plonk.
