North Hagley Park, Christchurch
Tues, 5th Feb 2008, 8:00pm-10:00pm FREE
(Rain day - Wednesday 6 February)
ASB Classical Sparks will welcome in Waitangi Day with an open air concert to enthral the whole family. Once again the sensational Christchurch Symphony, under the baton of Mr Kenneth Young, will deliver a scintillating programme of music to stir, surprise, and stimulate.
Local Kapa Haka will launch the evening in a celebration of our Maori heritage and propel us into our talented array of guest artists such as the stunning Christchurch born and bred Bic Runga, international singing star Geoff Sewell from Amici Forever, and the flamboyant
Elena with her classic rock violin.
Then the night will be set alight for an ending to end all endings with Wagner's Ride Of The Valkyries and a spectacular fireworks finale.
This ASB Classical Sparks marks the eve of the nation's official birth - a must for all Cantabrians and visitors alike. From 6pm enjoy an entrée of ASB Classical Kids -
starring future talent from Burnside and Cashmere High Schools performing classical and jazz music
to entertain as you walk through Hagley Park. Please bring a coin for their hats!
