Description: This new programme allows students to choose between either a Jazz pathway with options in performance (tonal or percussion) or writing; or a Popular Music/Rock pathway that integrates skills in performance, writing and production. It consists of practical and theoretical courses in a variety of music and music related topics including instrumental or vocal practical study, music theory, composition, arranging, history, improvisation, sound, music production, sequencing and a supervised research project in the final year.
Qualification: Bachelor of Musical Arts (BMusArts) or Diploma of Musical Arts (DipMusArts)
Facilities: Purpose built in 1998, the three level Jazz School building features some of the best facilities of any music institution in the world. Rooms are air conditioned and sound proofed, and include; 10 individual practice rooms, 6 ensemble rooms, 3 class rooms, computer/keyboard suite, CD and resource library and a 180 seat auditorium/recording facility. Located near the centre of the Christchurch CBD, students have access 7am to midnight, seven days a week.

Entry Criteria:
Academic: Total of 42 NCEA credits at Level 3, as follows: 14 credits in English or an English rich subject.
an additional 28 credits across any subjects, subject areas or domains, including unit standards.
Musical Audition: Instrumental or vocal skills and ability (in person or by DVD), aural test, theory test (approximately equivalent to Grade 3 level).
Prospects:
Depending on courses studied, you will also be able to engage in many musical and artistic situations including teaching, performance, journalism, production, sound engineering, event management, promotion, composition and arranging.
