Wednesday 10 September 2008 - Auckland Town Hall
The Silver Scroll Award, New Zealand's most prestigious music award, has been presented since 1965. With unique renditions of the finalists works and an opportunity to celebrate New Zealand’s finest songwriters and composers the “Silver Scrolls” has become the industry’s favourite night out.
The date for this one of a kind invite only event is set – Wednesday 10 September at the Auckland Town Hall.
Along with the Silver Scroll are the SOUNZ Contemporary Award, recognising creative excellence by a NZ classical composer and the APRA Maioha Award, presented for the best Maori song in Te Reo of the year. Plus, the Most Performed Work Overseas Award and the Most Performed Work in New Zealand Award will also be presented on the night.
We also continue to recognise those very special writers, artists and performers who have made a significant impact on New Zealand culture with their music. There will be surprise induction into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame, making the Awards an extraordinary evening of celebration.
We Want You!
Be a part of New Zealand music history. The APRA Silver Scroll is the most prestigious music award in the country and only APRA members have the power to decide who wins. As the only peer voted music award in New Zealand, this award is no popularity contest or industry competition. Peer voting for the winner of the APRA Silver Scroll is all about songwriters recognising the outstanding achievements of their cohorts and honouring the craft of songwriting.
As the 2007 Silver Scroll winner, Brooke Fraser says: "It is humbling to accept an award from my songwriting peers".
