Belladonna Film Trust, Canterbury
The popular grass roots film festival run by the Belladonna Film Trust returns to its home at the Public Art gallery once more, bring with it a collection of kiwi shots by emergent film makers, but also, for the first time, a collection of international works of animation and short film.
Supported by Creative Communities, Phantom Bill Stickers, Christchurch City Council and the Lion Foundation, the Canterbury Short Film Festival rides again in the Garden City on July 7, 8, 9 and 10 with a four collections of exciting new works by emergent film-making talent!
This is a rare chance to see the works on new film practitioners before they disappear into the vast industry of film production. “Many students of film do their most creatively free work at this point,” says Belladonna chairperson Meredith Hart, “before the industry conditions them and fiscal outcomes restrict their actions.”
This will be the 7th year that the Trust has run the short film festival and its 6th year in the Philip Carter Family Auditorium at the Christchurch Art Gallery. Live music opens the show each night at 7.15pm, with films beginning at 7.45pm; the show runs for 70 minutes each night. The kiwi shorts bookend the event on July 7 and 10, with the international works, which include animation and short film, on July 8 and 9.
Cinematic Styles Seminar
A seminar on experimental film and its influence on mainstream cinematic styles is on 9 July at 6.00pm, and all of this at the Christchurch Art Gallery Auditorium. Speaking will be John Christoffells (UcC), Rick Lucas (CPIT) and Christian Carruthers (CPIT).
