Dux de Lux Lounge - Introductory evening to the Arts course
Monday, 22nd September 2008, 5pm.
41 Hereford St, PO Box 150, Christchurch.
A ten day FUSE Art Business Initiative course is coming up, the first two weeks of October 2008 at Our City O-Tautahi.
This course will take any Arts practice to a new level with information, resources and networks opening up to you.
On the course we will discuss the many benefits of being self-employed in the Arts. One is that the full cost of the course is tax deductible as a business expense for those who are actively seeking to develop a professional practice. This can benefit you even if you are not currently paying tax, but you'll need to know what to do now.
This FUSE course is $585 which is incredible value, as it includes free consultations, and a back up sessions for each topic. These follow on, one each Wednesday evening until the Christmas holidays. They will be arranged according to the needs of the group. The idea is the cover each topic again for those who have to miss it, or would like to review material from another angle. Artists who have attended the FUSE course in the past are also invited to join these Wednesday workshop sessions. At the end of the session each week there will be an opportunity to network, with the prospect of meeting new artists on a regular basis.
Students from Canterbury or others with conflicting schedules are invited to contact me to discuss how they can get the full course using these follow up sessions along with a special sessions to bring it all together as the full course.
If someone else you know might be interested in coming as well, please tell them about the course, which runs in the weekday evenings from 29 September to 10 October. That is for two weeks from Monday to Friday 5 - 8:30 pm at Our City O-Tautahi on the Worchester Boulevard bridge.
We will begin the course with an introductory evening at 5:00pm, Monday 22 September, upstairs at the Dux de Lux. Just meeting for around an hour to get acquainted a week before the seminars start. This will be a chance to socialize among a variety of artists. You are invited to come if you are still considering whether to do the course, and bring a friend if you wish. It will be the last opportunity for people to enrol in the course (provided there are spaces left).
Two other things you should know:
1) There are three full scholarships for the FUSE course available for full-time students, one in high school and two at tertiary level. The application is very simple and is due back by 12 September. Forms can be requested by email to kate@artists.co.nz or phone (03) 3322 038.
2) I am currently developing a variety of resources which will only be available to artists who have done the FUSE course, so do your friends a favor and let them know too. If there are issues with times or finance, please contact me to discuss options.
Plan to come for a dose of sunshine in the night time,
Kate Spencer
