Friday, 19th September 2008, 10pm, $10 on the door

Based in Lyttelton port, Christchurch, The Harbour Sessions is a bi-monthly event aiming to provide a forum for Christchurch and New Zealand's underground, DIY singer/songwriters. The iconic Wunderbar plays the host with it's distinctive decor, and vibrant music culture providing the perfect foil for the Harbour Sessions concept.

The concept itself draws on an Anti-Folk philosophy that 4 songs is the optimum for an audience to gain an appreciation for a performer’s music without the mind starting to wander. Applying this principle, each Harbour Session will involve 4-6 solo or duo artists playing 4 songs each with a 'headlining' band or solo performer playing a full set to conclude the session.

The Harbour Sessions also hopes to become a recognized stop-over venue for known bands and musicians touring the South Island, who will be invited to play either as a “headline” act or 4 song performers.

Like To Perform At The Harbour Sessions?
The Harbour Sessions supports anything unique and original and invites expressions of interest from any and all singer/songwriters. The goal is to promote and expose a culture of underground music performance and to promote an awareness of local and New Zealand talent outside of commercial “mainstream” avenues.

The Harbour Sessions does not cater solely for the up and coming performer. An underlying philosophy is to promote a music community by bringing together both established and novice performers.

By 2009, each performance will be recorded live and with mp3 downloads being made available after each session, a compilation CD/album download featuring the best of The Harbour Sessions will be made available to purchase via the myspace website at the end of the year. The first Harbour Sessions will be on the 19th of September.
