Canterbury has a new festival, the Labour Weekend Musical Bonanza being held at the James Hay Theatre over Labour Weekend. The concerts will feature two international concert and one featuring a range of Christchurch artists.

The first international acts booked include:

The JOHN SCOFIELD (Guitar) - JOE LOVANO (Saxophone) Quartet featuring Matt Penman - bass and Matt Wilson. After performing with Miles Davis. Herbie Hancock, The Woody Herman Big Band, Gary Burton, Hank Jones, Joe Henderson, Dave Holland to name a few witness the sum of their collective years of experience, creativity and technique presented with intensity, skill and fun.


and Back by popular demand. International Acclaimed Blues Master
CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE - Musical institutions have honoured Musselwhite, with 18 W.C. Handy awards to his credit and 6 Grammy nominations, he is firmly entrenched in musical history. Musselwhite has also been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award from The Monterey Blues Festival. With Guitarist DANNY CARON Performed with The World Blues Revue and Charles Brown, Hammond Organist DAVID K. MATHEWS Performed with Tower of Power and is the keyboardist for Grammy Award winning Queen of Rhythm & Blues - Etta James. In Concert with THE RODGER FOX BIG BAND.

This concert series will be the first time the legendary Blues icon CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE has worked in front of an 18 piece Big Band. This is BIG BLUES.
