The Pixies will play a one-off New Zealand show in Christchurch in August.
The American alternative rock act announced to The Press yesterday that they would appear at the Westpac Arena on Tuesday, August 3. The group – Black Francis, Joey Santiago, David Lovering and Kim Deal – played their first New Zealand shows in Auckland this month to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their classic 1989 album Doolittle.
Over 1500 South Island fans went to the Auckland shows. However, the Christchurch show will cover their full catalogue, including Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Bossa Nova and Trompe Le Monde.
The group "loved" their time in New Zealand and "wanted to see the South Island as well", Francis said. The Pixies, who formed in 1986, are credited with influencing Nirvana and Pearl Jam and the so-called "Seattle sound".
Tickets to the Christchurch show will go on sale through Ticketek from Friday at noon.
