RDU Decknology 2008

This year, at the same time as the Roundup band competition, we will be reintroducing RDU’s DJ competition Decknology 2008. Decknology was designed to provide up and coming DJs and Producers experience and exposure in the live mix environment and to find the best damn mixer in our fair city. Decknology 2008 rolls out a couple of heats then a number of genre bending category finals. Winners of each category final then compete for the title of “Decknology Grand Champion 2008”.

Past DJ competitions RDU has run have garnered a staggering number of entrants (35 drum’n’bass entrants in one category alone). It is anticipated that more than 100 DJs (bedroom and experienced alike) will enter this year’s competition. Here at RDU we say - bring the noise!

ABOUT DECKNOLOGY
Due to the weighting of genres the category finals have been playlisted in a way that compliments their style of mixing and genre, and best spreads the contestants’ chance for success.

This competition is now become fundamentally a soundclash with the winner taking the glory for bringing not only a tight mix but also a performance that beats their opponents in winning crowd support and the judges points. So all those that have made it through, we recommend
working now on getting a full 30 minutes together and focusing on what it will take to become the best on your night.

We understand there will be some disappointment out there but we hope all those who have not made it will take the opportunity to consider how you can improve your mix for next year’s competition. If you have any questions regarding your mix – feel free to call in to the station
and we will do our best to give you feedback that can help you progress. But no matter what the outcome - continue experimenting and refining your sound and style as it takes dedication, determination and endless passion for the music to become a top Deejay! Ruuuuspect. Arr Dee You.

This year, Decknology coincide with the 30th Birthday of the Dux de Lux. The Dux de Lux won New Zealand Bar of the Year in 2006 and is an institution in the New Zealand music scene. It is also Christchurch’s leading showcase for contemporary New Zealand music featuring a weekly line up of new music every week for more years than anyone can remember. Located in downtown Christchurch, RounDUp and Decknology 2008 will take over the entire 2500 person capacity complex and entertain our neighbourhood with Christchurch’s freshest music.
