THE KLAP - RDU RoundUp Winners 2008 (photo: Chris Andrews)	Welcome to the October 2008 Christchurch Music Update. Well after a long month of heats at the Dux there is now a new RoundUp Champion in town... urban cowboys The Klap (see Featured Artist) took home the Midget guitar Of Glory as the Dux RoundUp Champions for 2008 with their intense live performance of alt-country polka genre-bending drinking music. Trumpets, one string slide guitars, accordians, banjo's and earthy vocals drew a huge crowd response and ultimately the judges votes. Narrowly missing out were new wavers The Tiny Paper Daggers who performed as a front row of 4 (Bang Bang Eche 2007 styles) fusing electro drumbeats with guitars, bass, spacey Radiohead-like keyboards with Oliver Sewell's strong UK 90's pop vocal style over the top, definitely ones to watch. Insomniac won the Decknology DJ competition, more details here.

	MOUNT PLEASANT - (Self Titled) (EP Download) Minimalist folk exponents Mount Pleasant have just released their album through A Low Hum. "Mount Pleasant is Christchurchs’ Jonathan Phillips. He writes very frustrating music. Beautiful and moving, yet often unsatisfying and annoying, Songs end abruptly, fade out or simply end way before you’re ready. They tease with tempting hooks and then just like they pick you up, they drop you straight back down again. Reflecting the cheap lo-fi manner in which they were recorded, songs either peak and distort, or are so quiet you need to lean into your stereo just to hear it. It took some time, but after several listens, I’m now totally putty listening to this record (Blink, A Low Hum). more

LA MITCHELL - Live At The Matterhorn (Live Album CD)
LA Mitchell announces the release of her new album Live at the Matterhorn, recorded in one unforgettable evening April 23 2008. The entirely independent Kiwi singer /songwriter, somewhat a rarity among NZ's female musicians, builds on the success of her 2007 album Debut with an album of her critically acclaimed original music spliced with new tracks and reinterpretations of classics. It is only the second Live at the Matterhorn album to ever be released, the first by Wellington supergroup Fat Freddys Drop in 2001 helping launch the band towards unparalleled success in NZ music. more
