30th June 2008
Welcome back live music fans…The wait is nearly over and final touches are now being put in place for this year’s multi-stage, live music extravaganza that is the annual Southern Amp festival...!!! To get you in the mood though while this cold winter blast is making us all miserable, we can tell you the following stuff:
WHEN – Southern Amp 2008 will be held on SUNDAY 9th NOVEMBER from 12.30pm in Christchurch NZ, once again at the start of NZ Cup & Show Week. Sometime within the next 3 weeks we will make the first (and most important) of the artist line-up announcements, advise ticketing details and give you as much information as we can about this year’s event.
WHERE – With the restructuring & redevelopment still going on at AMI Stadium which currently includes having half of its stands missing… and also tearing up the old turf and laying down of a brand new playing surface for the stadium in October, Southern Amp moves to Westpac Arena & surrounding Addington Grounds for 2008. The festival site is being specially designed and will be built around the existing Westpac Arena to comprise three full production live music stages, a bunch of great thrill rides (including a vertical bungy…), a live music lounge presented by Vodafone, guitar workshops, a busking stage and plenty of bars & food stalls.
WEATHER – Every one of the 3 stages this year will be completely UNDERCOVER from the unpredictable November weather making Southern Amp 2008 a weather-free festival! The Westpac Arena will form our Main Stage, once again presented by The Rock with a mix of great International, Aussie & NZ bands; a 2000 capacity mega-marquee will be built outside the Arena to form the Ministry Of Sound Stage presented by The Edge with the best in Australasia’s current dance acts + a third huge circus tent will also be built to the other side of the Arena to form our NZ Music Stage presented by C4 and Chart which will include the best current NZ & Christchurch artists.
HOW MANY – With each stage either undercover or indoors we have strict restrictions on the overall crowd numbers we can allow into the festival site this year, so the total capacity at Southern Amp 2008 will be limited to approximately 9000 people. This means there is no excuse now to wait until the last minute weather forecast, no hanging out for special deals etc, if you don’t get your tickets quickly you WILL miss out.
HOW MUCH – Ticket prices to the festival and on sale dates will be announced with the first line up release in the 3rd week of July. We can tell you now though that the first limited release of tickets will be an EARLYBIRD SPECIAL at $79.50 (excl booking fees). This is the SAME PRICE that Southern Amp Earlybird tickets have been for the last two festivals! So once again we are leaving our first release ticket prices unchanged for a 3rd consecutive Southern Amp, regardless of increases in price of just about every thing else in life! Southern Amp 2008 will once again be R15 restricted.
HOW DO GET INFO FIRST? – You will get all the info FIRST via the Southern Amp email database at www.southernamp.co.nz – so make sure you & your mates are signed up. The old 2007 website will be archived behind a new temporary holding page from the end of this week with the brand new Southern Amp 2008 website being launched to coincide with the first announcements in mid July. In the meantime if you or any of your mates need to sign up before the new website takes affect, just visit the old site and drop your email address in the “Sign Up” box. So that’s the first info folks…
The South Island’s biggest multi-stage live music festival is back on Sunday 9th November and will be back every year from now on! See u there! S.AMP Team
