The Christchurch Community Arts Council (CCAC) is a voluntary incorporated body made up of elected members of the Christchurch arts community.

CCAC's prime objectives are to:

* Encourage and promote the practice, appreciation and enjoyment of all forms of artistic activity in Christchurch.
* Act as an advocate for community arts in Christchurch.
* Make grants and subsidies available for community arts projects.
* Undertake any other activities that it determines are for the benefit of community arts in Christchurch.

CCAC is represented on the assessment committee of the Creative Communities Funding Scheme and serves as a advocacy group for the arts at a community level in Christchurch. The CCAC publishes an Arts Participation Guide for Christchurch and operates a quarterly Community Arts Funding Scheme to provide small grants to arts projects in the region.

Membership of our executive is by election at our September AGM or by request of one or more executive members at anytime during an executive's term of office.

Community Arts Funding Scheme 2008 - 2009

This scheme was established in 2005 with the support of the Canterbury Community Trust. The panel (three CCAC executive members and an external advisor) meet quarterly to make decisions on applications made to the fund and to distribute grants. The fund targets community level arts projects that have a focus on active participation and group development, but will also consider smaller individual requests for project support. Particularly the scheme aims to bridge shortfalls in funding for groups who have missed major funding rounds, or simply cannot find other funding elsewhere. Each project is considered on its merits and on a case-by-case manner.

The current panel is Jan Burmester, Lucy Arnold and Colleen Eason with Anne Joliffe acting as our external advisor.

Examples of areas eligible for funding

  • Promotion costs of an arts related project
  • Venue hire
  • Workshop fees.
  • Some material costs

Examples of purposes which are not eligible for funding:

  • Payment of legal expenses
  • Servicing of existing debt
  • Events or trips, which are predominantly
  • Cash prizes or large non-cash prizes
  • Purchase or subsidy of alcohol/food
  • Feasibility study or report writing
  • Commercial tourism promotions.
