Content:

Content includes event and conference management, project management tools, planning, public facilities operations, event marketing and sponsorship. Delivery is via block courses interspersed with industry based internships that range across sport, the arts, cultural events and facility operations. Internships may be taken anywhere in New Zealand or overseas.

Career & Further Opportunities:

You will develop the theory and practical applications of event planning, marketing and management to maximise employment opportunities in the growing events industry. Career opportunities include
fundraising, conferences, festivals, arts and tourism event management, facility based event management, public relations, sponsorship and marketing.

Industry Internship One - Operations/Events

Course Code: EMOP601 - Credits: 22.0 - Level: 6 -
The purpose of this course is to enable students to experience 'hands on' the complexities of a real world, public assembly facility or events organisation. Students will learn how to effectively contribute to the operational functions and routine events of an Intership Provider. Students will be required to apply theory and concepts and critically evaluate their own experiential learning and professional practice. They will need to demonstrate an understanding of
organisational culture, systems and planning processes in the context of the Intership.

Event Marketing and Sponsorship

Course Code: EMEM704 - Credits: 13.0 - Level: 7 -
The purpose of this course is to apply current theory and practice in analysing, planning, monotoring, evaluating and controlling the marketing efforts related to events

Event/Conference Planning and Management

Course Code: EMEC700 - Credits: 13.0 - Level: 7 -
The purpose of this course is to enable students to use contemporary management,event and conference planning theory in the planning, management and evaluation of events and conferences

Industry Internship Three (Special Projects)

Course Code: EMSP703 - Credits: 24.0 - Level: 7 -
The purpose of this course is to explore areas beyond the generic brief in Internship one and two. Critical analysis of projects and development of new ideas and concepts should be part of the work environment. Students should be considering management systems and processes to improve and enhance operations and services of the organisation

Industry Internship Two (Special Event)

Course Code: EMSE702 - Credits: 36.0 - Level: 7 -
The purpose of this course is to enable students to plan, create, manage, implement and evaluate an event. This will involve responsibility for driving the planning and management negotiated within agreed parameters of accountability with the Intership Provider and in a group project for a client.
