Being an aging Dunedin punk who’s been on the music scene since the 1980s, even playing occasionally, I’ve established a rapport with many musicians locally, nationally, and even internationally. Although rock photography is my forté, I’m also involved by way of lighting and DIY recording and recently established Living Cadaver Records to record and release local punk acts.
Focusing mainly on the local scene, covering local and touring acts, I travel when time and money permit to larger shows around the country. I’ll gladly travel for anything else provided travel expenses are covered.
My ethos as a photographer is very simple, very punk. For the love of music, I take photos primarily for the artists! If I get to see the gig for free and I’m able to display them on my website and publish them in the Groove Guide (for which I’m a regular contributor), they deserve free licensed shots in return. Promoters also receive licensed shots if they request them. Promo shots and album covers can be fun too!
Having been in the music industry for so long and having worked many shows as a lighting tech, roadie or lugger, I am fully aware of show etiquette and safety (which of course goes completely out the door at punk gigs). Unless otherwise mutually agreed, photos are always taken front stage without flash and limited to the first three songs. Standard release forms will be duly signed if required.
