4YP - CCC Youth Entertainment Project

4yp youth cafe4YP has been around for a while now... in fact the project enters its teenage years in 2008. Like any adolescent, 4YP is undergoing change. When the Christchurch City Council Youth Entertainment Project was launched in 1995 the goal was to run 15 events each year. 4YP now presents over 75 events annually.

Each year over 25,000 young people attend 4YP events which include Community Dances, weekly band performances, festivals and special events such as the Interschool Lip Sync Competition, All Night Party, Audio Overload and RAPID Storm.

What makes 4YP unique is that events are planned and run with and by young people. The success of this project has come about because of the partnerships 4YP has with young people, youth/community groups, agencies, schools...

Youth Cafe Project (YCP)
YCP is part of 4YP (the Christchurch City Council Youth Entertainment Project). 4YP is all about supporting young people through events. 4YP runs over 70 events each year including Youth Cafe performances, dance parties, big events etc.

YCP (Youth Cafe Project) is all about creating opportunities.

Opportunities for bands to perform.
Opportunities for young people to hear bands play.
Opportunites for venues to host music events.
Opportunities for youth organisations to run gigs.
Opportunities for young people to learn about running events.

YCP does this by...
....running weekly performances
....supplying bands with backline, PA and tech support
....sourcing bands for other events and concerts
....paying bands for playing (if you're good enough to play... you're good enough to pay)
....training volunteers and organisations
supporting host organisations to successfully run events.
